I do not know if it is a lack of trust, a lack of due dilligence, or just a lack of communication that is at play here. I tend to believe the latter.There may have been a comprehensive multi-agency vetting process that preceded the decision to allow the control of these port's management to proceed. But, as with a myriad of other situations, the administration has been caught left-footed in explaining its position to the American public.
Could this ultimately be a tempest in a teapot? Possibly. But in one very real sense, the adminsitration needs to pull itself out of its lethargy and get out front in these issues. Their communications strategies are abysmal.
Years ago in a discussion with my father-in-law, who made a name for himself in the auto repair business, he bemoaned the fact that so many automobiles on the roads in America today were of foreign make. I remember telling him at the time that America could be making the best cars in the world but who would believe them. Today, with the current administration, the same can be said. They may very well be doing the absolute best that can be done, but who would believe them.

I was a Democrat for the first half of my life - and a proud one at that. Humphrey epitomized the party and those like him allowed for all voices to be heard, liberal and conservative alike. The Democratic Party was a party of Inclusion and full of honest debate on the issues of the day.
For me, the turning point was Jimmy Carter and the Rainbow Coalition. With that movement, only Liberal voices had a say in the Democratic Party. And over time conservatives and then even moderates were squeezed out of the voice of the party until it has become, like Clinton, without substance.
Compare the party of Humphrey with the pretenders of today's Democratic Party. Go ahead. Look at the war, NSA surveillance, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, and the list can go on and on. How would Humphrey and his party have responded to these issues. I dare say, they are rolling in their graves at what today's Democrats are doing! And for what the new generation of DFL'ers are trying to perpetrate, Humphrey would cry "But not you!"
I agree with you, Beto Ochoa "If the democrats were still populated by the Hubert H. Humphrey calibre of politicians, I would still be a democrat." You're Damn Straight!

I agree with you, Rick. The one entity I would avoid in determining the truth of these claims is our own Intelligence community. But maybe there may be some leverage in this story from other Intelligence sources, such as the British. I would be very interested in their take on this.

Thank you for your position with this entry. It is a confusing world we face today. While reading this entry and your previous entries, you see such disparity in the Muslim world.On one hand you see Lebanon struggling to free itself of the Syrian yoke, and you applaud their struggles. You want to stand up and cheer when young Hariri calls for unity “We meet here today in March 14 square, there are no Muslims and there are no Christians, there are only Lebanese screaming ‘Lebanon first.’ There is no place amongst us for criminals … there is no place among us for the symbols of the security apparatus.â€
And then you see this ridiculous contrived controversy over a series of cartoons. It is maddening. But it is symptomatic of the Muslim world. Two things are certain regarding this in my mind - We need to continue to stand up and cheer for the Hariris of the world and at the same time stand up against the Dhimmitude that would be imposed upon us by the Islamo-Fascists.

And our own State Department has provided this input:
"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the beliefs of Muslims," State Department spokesman Justin Higgins said when queried about the furore sparked by the cartoons which first appeared in a Danish newspaper. "We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility," Higgins told AFP. "Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable. We call for tolerance and respect for all communities and for their religious beliefs and practices."
So much for supporting Freedoms of Speech or the Press! I can only wonder when the State Department will make similar comments to the New York Times or the Washington Post. Once more, the West bends over and "takes it like a man."

The West can endure in the mind of Islam only in servitude. We (the West) can either convert or submit as serfs to the will of Islam. There is no middle ground. And the battles may be simplistic - the soiling of a holy book, the cartoons of a holy personage - but they stand out in the eyes of Islam every time the West backs down. For, in backing down, we reinforce our subservience to their will. For, in backing down, we show our lack of fortitude, our lack of will, our lack of faith to counter that of Islam, providing them with victory after victory. And with every small victory Islam tightens its "stranglehold on the minds of it adherents." I can only hope the West finds its backbone before the battle escalates.

You have single-handedly brought my entire attention to a single television show!!!!! I never imagined a write-up such as yours could get me excited about something so mundane as TV. Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry should fear your entrance into the genre. With an attitude like yours, you should command at least an 8 figure salary selling television.
